Biodegradable medical gloves

​We found biodegradable medical gloves! We like the green colour too.

The Renew Biodegradable Nitrile examination gloves will biodegrade into methane and CO2 in a regular landfill. Though they are still a petroleum based synthetic rubber, at least they completely breakdown in a few years, and hopefully in the Edmonton landfill where the gas can be captured for energy generation.
Special Recycling
We use Terracycle to recycle haard to process items that cannot be recycled locally. This includes a special box to recycle clean used gloves and masks, as well as dental products as in this photo.

We encourage our patients to bring in their used toothbrushes, empty toothpaste tubes, floss containers and dental product packaging to get sent for recycling. 

Keep it out of the landfill and repurposed.
Take home goodies!
Guardian Dental doesn't want you to take home any plastic garbage from our clinic. We have paper bags, bamboo toothbrushes, Change toothpaste samples (in biodegradable packaging) and Change compostable flossers for you to try.

Of course, dental care is customized for you, so we do have selected quality tools and items as well, some of which are plastic. When we can't avoid plastic we encourage you to bring those items back the clinic to be processed in out TerraCycle box as above. 

Eco-friendly sterilization

At Guardian Dental we use AdvanCheck 100% biodegradable crepe paper sterilization wraps for our silicone instruments cassettes. 
When we use sterilization bags, we separate the plastic and paper and recycle with recycle bins in every operatory.

Washable Dental bibs and gowns and caps and...

To reduce waste, we made washable waterproof dental bibs and headrest covers made of urethane -laminated -made in Canada fabric with fun colours.  After every single-patient use they are washed and dried in-office with environmentally friendly detergent. We also use washable protection gowns or coats.

Environmentally friendly cleaner

It is very important to disinfect a dental office. ​We use environmentally friendly cleaner with activated hydrogen peroxide that breaks down into water and oxygen

Recycling at Guardian

We recycle whenever possible, including office paper, packaging, and sterilization pouches. Sterilization pouches are made of paper and a plastic film, if separated, they can be processed for recycling in our Edmonton waste management plant.  We have recycling bins by all our dental chairs, and we save bags and bags of waste from heading to the landfill.

Organic, biodegradeable cotton wipes

We use lots of disposable cotton wipes in our practice, and purchase ones that are made of organic cotton and FSC Lyocell, which are 100% biodegradable.

Renewable energy

We subscribe to Bullfrog Power’s renewable energy program, allowing us to offset our electricity use with green energy. Thank you to bullfrog for writing about us.

Impact reducing materials and packaging

​Guardian Dental uses several BeeSure EcoBee dental products, such as disposable suction and spray tips.  These are made with impact-reducing materials and packaging, and the company has many pro-environment initiatives we want to support.
We have an amalgam trap to isolate mercury waste from the environment - actually, every office does: it's the law.
